Can Occupational Therapy support my child?

Occupational Therapy can support children at any stage of development if they are experiencing difficulty completing one or more of their daily activities. Occupational Therapy can benefit children with a range of diagnosed conditions including Autism, ADHD, Global Developmental Delay, Developmental Coordination Disorder, Dysgraphia, Anxiety, PDA and Intellectual Disability. Children who are early in their diagnostic journey, or who are simply finding some tasks challenging can also benefit from OT support.
If any of the following sounds like you, Occupational Therapy can help:
Having difficulties with your morning routine?
Are mealtimes a challenging time?
Is your child having trouble with sleep?
Is your child finding it hard to learn and focus at school or daycare?
Is your child finding it hard to move their body and keep up with their peers?
Would you like support to know how to support your child with their emotions?
Is making friends and playing with others difficult for your child?
Are your child's sensory patterns impacting how they engage in daily activities?

Functional Capacity Assessments

Functional Capacity Assessments (FCA's) are highly detailed assessments of a child's performance. FCA's assess all skill areas in addition to assessing a child's support requirements. The primary purpose of these assessments is to gain a thorough understanding of all the services and supports required by a child, to advocate for these to be funded by the NDIS.

Parent and school coaching

Supporting children to build their skills is a team effort. Your Occupational Therapist will work alongside your family and your child's educators, to ensure they have a comprehensive understanding of your child, and so that strategies can be implemented in all environments.
